Education

Antioch College Bachelors Degree, Major in Education New College of California, SF Masters Degree. GPA was 4.0 Obtained a teaching credential for grades K-6 UNC Greeley Graduate Coursework in teaching Linguistically Diverse students (that is, students learning English) GPA was 4.0 Obtained an Endorsement for teaching ELD students for grades K-12. I passed the PLACE exam for Reading Specialists, and have taken more than 20 semester units in teaching reading BEYOND those required for my teaching credential. I have also published both poetry and non-fiction essays.

Experience

I taught in public schools for ten years, and also worked with the "Homebound Program" in two school districts. Homebound programs serves students who, for medical reasons, cannot attend school for awhile, so teachers go to them. In terms of why I want to be a tutor ... in a one-on-one situation, I can go deeper as a teacher and help the students more. I have worked with the tutoring site Wyzant since 2012. Clients rate the tutors on a scale of 1-5; my current rating is 4.6. I love teaching, and have worked with students from kindergarten through the first year of college. Can help with language-based courses (such as English, geography, psychology) up through the college level, but my expertise in math tops out at 6th grade. I am both patient and creative, and have worked with students who are gifted, who have ADHD and/or are on the Autism scale. I also spent several years working with English Language Learners (ELLs).

Hobbies

My hobbies include writing, reading, swimming, and going to movies. I have also JUST started coin collecting. I love animals, and used to have both a cat and a dog. My dog, a little Shih Tzu, was a rescue ... he had survived Hurricane Katrina back in 2005. Sadly, he just passed away in August, but I still have the cat ... a beautiful Russian Blue who we call "Mitten." (Her real name is Gi Gi, but when she was small, we called her "Kitten Mitten," and "Mitten just stuck.)
